Meet Bruce

Brush Line

Bruce Schultz’s journey from a small farm in Nebraska to a ​distinguished career in veterinary science and education is marked by ​a deep commitment to leadership, teaching, and community service.


With over 40 years of experience serving on boards at all educational ​levels—from preschool to university—Bruce has consistently prioritized ​education in his life. He has been involved in university outreach and ​undergraduate teaching since 1982. His 25 years as a professor have ​seen him directing a biomedical research program while mentoring ​and teaching undergraduate, graduate and veterinary students. ​Bruce's dedication extends beyond the classroom, as he has ​homeschooled high school students, coached, and worked as a ​substitute teacher at the grade school level. His administrative roles ​have included serving as an associate and interim department head, ​college faculty council president, university faculty senate member, ​course coordinator, and regents academic committee chair.


Bruce and his wife, Kathy, live in Wabaunsee County. They have been ​blessed with two children and six adorable grandchildren. Through hi​s multifaceted career and community involvement, Bruce continues t​o impact and inspire the next generation, demonstrating a lifelon​g dedication to education and leadership​.

School Safety - Ensure schools are safe places for all students, focusing on preventing ​bullying and maintaining a secure atmosphere where students can live and learn without ​fear.

Academic Focus - Prioritize education in critical subjects like math, language arts, ​science, and financial literacy for their practical utility and measurable outcomes. Ensure ​that education for students with disabilities is accessible, appropriate and effective.

Parent-Teacher Collaboration - Recognize parents as the initial teachers, highlighting ​the need for collaboration with professional educators. Implement programs to assist ​parents to better engage in their child's education.

Effective Communication - Create and maintain straightforward, accessible ​communication channels between parents, teachers and school boards, ensuring all ​parties are treated with respect.

Budget Management - Critically assess how educational needs are identified and how ​funds are distributed, with a focus on academic priorities and student safety to enhance ​the efficiency of the state's educational budget.
